Defense strategies
Use this thread to discuss effective war base layouts, post screenshots of your war base layout for advice/suggestions, consider clan castle troop combos, etc.
Re: Defense strategies
This is not a bad base for early-mid TH9ers. It is called the Trophy Ringus

Re: Defense strategies
The object is to hold the other clan to get the least amount of stars from your war base as possible. There's a 99% likelihood that they will get 1 star from most of our bases. So the object becomes to prevent a 2+ star - by protecting your town hall above all else this will prevent a 2-3 star victory.
Hybrid bases will fail and give up 2-3 stars and there's no sense in protecting your resources anyway as they are not vulnerable in clan wars.
I'm going to use a layout like this and just throw the rest of the crap outside of these walls. I'm also considering walling in the builders huts and others for wall breaker deterrence.

edit - I'm also thinking of taking the two Teslas away from the center from my TH to avoid pulling hog riders to the center

Re: Defense strategies
Thats a minimum of 8 wbs to get to your town hall. I may do something like that, but wall around some other shit on the outside to attract wbs.

Re: Defense strategies
so im still confused as to why a war base is different from a defense base. Isn't the goal on defense to also protect from 2 stars?

Re: Defense strategies
So yes, in both scenarios, you'd ideally like people to get 0 stars.
However, here's the dif:
-In a trophy hunting village, your first objective is to protect your TH, your secondary objective is to protect your resources, which you have enough walls and defenses to accomplish with various hybrid layouts.
-A trophy hunter has only ~30 seconds to study your town before launching his attack
-Also consider that when defending against other trophy hunters, they are typically not throwing all 4-5 of their spells, a full clan castle, exhausting both heroes, building a devastating army and using 100% of it to wipe you out.
This is because most trophy hunters want to get 1 easiest star with the most efficient army/combo, then move on and get another 1 star from someone else, and another, and so on as quickly as possible.
-In clan wars, your trophies and resources are not vulnerable. This means your one and only objective is to protect your town hall.
-The enemy has 24 hours to study your war base layout and devise/discuss stratagem with their clan members for how to defeat it.
-Each player in a clan war only gets to attack TWO times during the war. This means that they will bring a full, expensive devastating army and use 100% of it, along with all of their spells, heroes, and clan castle - because they don't need to efficiently get some trophies and move to the next - they need to flatten your town.
Considering that the enemy clan will study our war bases in advance of attacking, plan for who will attack who, then throw the kitchen sink at you, it is extremely likely you will get at least one-starred any time you're hit in a clan war.
And that is the difference between a trophy-hunting village, and a clan wars-base

Re: Defense strategies
Also, remember that during a clan war, you will have TWO towns:
1. Your War Base that is on the War Map, that only the enemy we're at war with can see and attack. This is the town where your trophies and resources are not at stake. This town can not be modified for the duration of the war once it is on the War Map. Your War Base does not ever get a shield.
2. Your normal village. You will still have your normal town, that you will want either in a farming, trophy, or hybrid layout respectively, depending on what you're doing in the game. This is the village that can still be raided by anyone for trophies or resources, and those battles are independent from the War. This town will still have the normal shield mechanics and can be modified during the war timeframe

Re: Defense strategies
Thanks Boet! That clears it up. So basically , since they're going to get 1 star anyway by virtue of them going all in with their attack, you might as well protect your other star (TH).

Re: Defense strategies
IMO, best clan castle level 5 makeup (30 capacity) is:
2 witches
1 wizard
2 archers or 1 minion

Re: Defense strategies
Yeah Cougar that's what Im going to do, make sure I have a shield, change my layout since it will expose my resources. Then after my war base is on the war map (and with my shield still active) I'll switch back to my farming layout ^.^
Re: Defense strategies
Basically kick your DE out of the center, move your Barb king to where your DE currently is. Move the NorthWest Air defense (or maybe the Northern Mortar) to where your Barb king currently is.
Since you don't have walls to close off all the corners, move your traps to directly cover those gaps for "funneling"
Also make 3 more builders huts
I would cluster all of your small bombs togeter in a pile of 4-6 or however many you have. They dont do much individually but can pack punch if you piled them all together in one of those gaps next to a tower or mortar.
Re: Defense strategies
Can u put up a good Th lvl 8 setup and see what I can do to make mine better... Just look for weak spots and how I can make those spots stronger

Solid TH8 (I have outlined the Clan Castle's range in RED for emphasis of why this is an effective layout):Gram the awesome wrote:Can u put up a good Th lvl 8 setup and see what I can do to make mine better... Just look for weak spots and how I can make those spots stronger
Re: Defense strategies
TH 9 design, base ripped from the players we just lost a war to, slightly modified.
Spring traps and large bombs optimized for Hog defense.
White circle shows the CC range. CC can not be cleared with just a few hogs like normal bases, the attacking player need to "commit" to the attack which maximize the chance of a successful defense.
Keep the highest level towers and walls on the TH side to minimize the risk of a successful zerg attack (2 star kamikaze approach).
I have set my crossbows to ground only for extended range. This leave me slightly more vulnerable to air attacks, time will tell if this works or not.
